right on,ratdog pulled into my hometown a few months back and kicked ass.i know a lot of folks here don't like bobby but his band is tight now and they rock.hoping to catch them in athens next month.nothing against phil but i rather spend my money on a ratdog show than phil and friends which all the tapes i've heard just doesn't do anything for me.

I'm with you there. To me Ratdog sounds like a BAND,( a GOOD band ), Phil's thing sounds like Phil conducting some hired hands. That's what I hear and feel about it anyway.

I think the difference is Bobby has held his band together for many years. And that makes a difference when you get on stage, everyone knows where the other band member is going and they can free form jam.

What I like about Phil, and it is a different style, is that he get's some fantastic friends. John Scoffield. Joan Osborne. Trey Anastasio. Chris Robinson. Ryan Adams. BTW, I think Joan has added the most of all those beforementioned friends. She is fun to listen to.

Either way I go see both when they swing up to the NorthWest.

I saw Joan when they were doing the Dead thing - way over rated to me. I dig sopme of the things she does but overall I don't buy it when she's singing the Jerry stuff.

I was just thinking why I like Joan. Then I thought I liked Chris Robinson singing too. That lead me to god lord if Phil never sang it would suit me just fine. I agree with you, but I don't buy into it when anyone but Jerry is singing. Damn I miss Jerry. At least Bobby songs are his. Poor Phil only have a handful of his own. Then it's time to dip into the Hunter/Garcia catalog.

I'm with you on Phil not singing. I think Bob sings a couple of Jerry tunes pretty good - especially lazy river road.

How could I forget Warren. I had a bumper sticker on my Vanagon during the last Presidential election that said Lesh & Haynes in 2004. They even sound like Presidential names.
